More than a Party Trick
Rev. Dr. Michelle Morris
John 2:1-12
Jesus turns water into wine, but it is more than just making sure everyone is having a good time. In this first miracle that Jesus performs, we see the heart of what the reign of God looks like.

Saying Goodbye
Since June 2023, Chris has been a cornerstone of both The Gathering and Beer & Hymns bands at First UMC. Holding down the beat with unwavering skill, his rhythm and musicality have opened up a freedom and range of expression we had never experienced before. I’ve had the privilege of playing with many great drummers throughout my career, and Chris stands among the very finest.

Casey and I are especially grateful for the time and care he’s invested in our son, Coleman. Chris’s laid-back, encouraging approach gave Coleman the freedom to explore drums at an age when most instructors wouldn’t take the time. He’s given our son an incredible foundation on his musical journey.

But more than anything, Chris is just a good human being. And that, above all else, is why I will miss him deeply.

Chris is moving back to Colorado to pursue a Doctorate in Jazz Studies—a journey we’re all excited to watch unfold. I can’t wait to visit, to hear his continued growth as a drummer and musician, and to cheer him on from afar.

We wish you all the best, Chris. Our prayers go with you.

Laugh at the Darkness,
Ken Weatherford
