This sermon will center on the story of the Israelite people as a people joined in a shared history, including escape and rescue from Egypt. We will talk about how we are part of this family and how we will see over and over our need to be liberated by God from recurring patterns.

This week we are looking at one of the most famous biblical passages about Scripture; we will draw into question how so many people use this passage to justify literalism when in fact, we find elements of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral in it. We will remind ourselves how we read so differently from the literalists around us.

This week we look at the incident when Jacob wrestles with God. Together we will reflect on if we are to honestly engage the scriptures, especially in age so skeptical of them, how must we wrestle with them? We will hearken back to the Rabbinic tradition of questioning the Scriptures for this one. In the process, we will come away a little hobbled but blessed.

Using the Tower of Babel story as our framework, we will share the joys and frustrations of so many languages, including a holy text that is not in just one language. We will also learn some of the historical struggles of translation.

Jesus, Do You Care? Life in a Sinking Boat

A deeper examination of the story of Christ's miraculous calming of the storm. What has led to this moment on the sea of Galilee? Just how tired is Jesus that he can sleep in the stern of this rather small boat (about 27 feet long) during a violent storm? I have always judged the disciples harshly for their lack of faith. However, the story may hide a richer message because the disciples fear for their lives and call on The Teacher to save them.

This week our adventure takes us to the story of the woman at the well. Our sermon will unfold differently than the past few weeks. The congregation will vote to determine the direction of the sermon, while Pastor Michelle is preaching! Will we hear the perspective of the woman, Jesus, the disciples, or the water?

Nicodemus is an illusive figure in the Gospel of John. He misunderstands Jesus, and then defends him, and then prepares his body for burial. But does he ever choose to follow him? We don’t actually know. We will consider the possibilities to see how this story might have ended.  The Gathering: https://fb.watch/ejZ8Az1hpR/ Traditional Worship: https://fb.watch/ejZ9NABGnY/

This week at "Show Down at the Ranch" we study the Prodigal Son, but this story is told from your view as the elder sibling. The passage ends without us knowing if the Elder Brother went to the party or not. We consider the implications of this story and decide which way we would choose.
